Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Trexapin exactly as directed.
Your doctor will decide your starting dose. The dose can be gradually increased to the amount needed to control your seizures, usually between 600 mg and 2400 mg each day. Some people will need higher doses than other people.
Take Trexapin twice each day, every day, at about the same time each day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
The doses can be taken either with or without food. Take the tablets with a full glass of water.
Continue to take Trexapin even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. Trexapin works best when there is a constant level of Trexapin in your body.
Do not stop taking Trexapin or lower the dose without first checking with your doctor. Do not let yourself run out of medicine over the weekend or on holidays. Your doctor will usually reduce the dose slowly before you can stop taking it completely.
If you miss a dose of Trexapin, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Store the medicine in a cool dry place. Do not store Trexapin or any other medicine in the bathroom or near a sink.
Before taking Trexapin, tell your doctor if:
you have an allergy to Trexapin or other medicines;
you have liver, kidney, or heart problems;
you have a low level of sodium in your blood;
you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, you are breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed.
Tell your doctor if you are taking oral contraceptives (birth control pills). If you begin taking Trexapin while you are taking birth control pills, the pill may not work as well as it should. Your doctor can suggest another form of birth control while you are taking Trexapin.
Active ingredient: oxcarbazepine.
Trexapin tablets do not contain lactose, sucrose, gluten, tartrazine or any other azo dyes.
