Trazec is taken right before a meal to help reduce mealtime glucose spikes. Trazec helps your body release insulin early, right at the start of a meal, when your body really needs it.

Trazec can be taken either alone or in addition to other type 2 diabetes medications: metformin (also known as Glucophage) or a class of drugs called thiazolidinediones, also called glitazones or TZDs.


Trazec (Starlix) Recommendations

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Trazec exactly as direcgted.

Trazec is designed to provide glucose control at mealtime, so you need to take Trazec before each main meal. Trazec is most effective when taken immediately before eating (1 to 30 minutes before your first bite). If you take Trazec after you've started eating, it won't be as effective. Also, it is best to take Trazec with a glass of water.

The usual recommended starting and maintenance dose of Trazec, alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines, is 120 mg three times daily before meals.

If you skip a meal, do not take your dose of Trazec. This will reduce the risk of low blood sugar.

Do not take Trazec, if:

you have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
