Rhinocort (generic name: budesonide; brand names include: Budenase / Rhinosol) is used to prevent and relieve allergic rhinitis commonly caused by hay fever and other allergies.
Rhinocort may be used in adults and children six years of age and older.
Rhinocort is a corticosteroid. It works by shrinking swollen and inflamed nasal tissue, and by blocking the action of certain cells and chemicals of the immune system, thus reducing inflammation and swelling and so relieving congestion, itching, sneezing, irritation and discomfort.
Rhinocort nasal spray is also used for nasal polyps, which are small growths inside the nose that can cause symptoms similar to allergic rhinitis. It is also used to keep nasal polyps from coming back after surgery to remove them.
Rhinocort is available as Budenase AQ nasal spray manufactured by Cipla. One bottle contains 150 metered doses.
Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Rhinocort Spray exactly as directed.
Shake well before each use.
Before using Rhinocort Spray for the first time, gently shake the container and prime the pump 8 times.
Clear your nose before using Rhinocort Spray. You may sniff gently to distribute the medicine into your nose, but do not breathe deeply.
If Rhinocort Spray is used daily, the pump does not need to be reprimed. If it is not used for 2 consecutive days, reprime it with 1 spray or until a fine mist appears.
If Rhinocort Spray is not used for more than 14 days, rinse the applicator and reprime it with 2 sprays or until a fine mist appears.
Use Rhinocort Spray on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it.
Continue to use Rhinocort Spray even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
Throw the bottle away after 120 sprays following the priming of the bottle. You may not get the correct amount of medication in each spray after a certain number of uses. Do not transfer any remaining suspension to another bottle.
If you miss a dose of Rhinocort Spray, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. After opening the aluminum pouch, use Rhinocort within 6 months. Store it at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture.
Before using Rhinocort, tell your doctor if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have recently had surgery on your nose or recently suffered from a nasal infection;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
