Precose (generic name: acarbose; brand names include: Glucobay / Glucor / Rebose) is an antidiabetic medicine. It belongs to a group of medicines known as alpha-glucosidase inhibitors.
Precose is used for the management of type 2 diabetes (non-unsulin dependent, NIDDM) and can be used alone or in combination with other diabetes drugs.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Precose exactly as directed.
The usual starting dose is 25 mg 3 times a day, just before each main meal.
The usual maintenance dose is 50-100 mg 3 times a day.
Tell your doctor before taking Precose, if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have diabetic ketoacidosis; cirrhosis; inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, or partial intestinal obstruction;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Active ingredient: acarbose.
