Maxaquin (generic name: Lomefloxacin; brand names include: Okacyn / Uniquin / Bareon) belongs to a group of medicines known as fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
Maxaquin is used for the treatment of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections and both complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
Indications include:
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
Cystitis
Urethral and cervical gonococcal infections
Pyelonephritis
Maxaquin is also used for the prevention of certain bacterial infections.

The usual recommended adult dosage is 400 mg daily. The duration of treatment varies according to the type of infection and is usually 3 to 14 days.
