Baclofen (generic name: baclofen; brand names include: Riclofen / Kemstro / Baclospas) belongs to a group of medicines known as muscle relaxants.
Baclofen is useful for the alleviation of signs and symptoms of spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis, particularly for the relief of flexor spasms and concomitant pain, clonus, and muscular rigidity.
Baclofen may also be of some value in patients with spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases.
Baclofen works by relaxing the muscles, preventing spasms, and reducing any pain and discomfort.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Baclofen exactly as directed.
The usual starting dose of Baclofen for adults is 5 mg given three times daily. Based on the response, the dose is then gradually increased to an amount that works best for you.
Swallow the tablets during meals with water or other liquid.
Continue taking Baclofen for as long as your doctor recommends. Your doctor will check your progress to make sure the medicine is working and will discuss with you how long your treatment should continue.
Do not stop taking Baclofen suddenly. Your doctor will probably reduce your dose gradually.
If you forget to take Baclofen, take it as soon as you remember and then go back to taking it as you would normally. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one that you missed.
Keep Baclofen at room temperature, away from light and moisture.
Before taking Baclofen, tell your doctor if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have a mental illness; seizures; heart, kidney, lung, stomach or liver disease; or diabetes;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
