Azathioprine (brand names include: Azasan / Imuran / Azap) belongs to a group of medicines known as immunosuppressants.
Azathioprine is used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases including:
rheumatoid arthritis
systemic lupus erythematosus
dermatomyositis and polymyositis
autoimmune chronic active hepatitis
pemphigus vulgaris
polyarteritis nodosa
autoimmune haemolytic anaemia

It is also used for the prevention of rejection in organ transplantations.
Follow the directions for taking Azathioprine provided by your doctor. Take your medicine exactly as directed.
Azathioprine is usually given in doses ranging from 1 mg to 6 mg per kilogram of body weight daily.
