Omeprazole/Sodium Bicarbonate is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and sodium bicarbonate combination. The PPI works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. The sodium bicarbonate slows the breakdown of the PPI in the stomach, which helps to increase absorption of the PPI.
This medication is used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn), and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production.
It may be used in combination with antibiotics to treat certain types of ulcers caused by bacterial infection (H. pylori).
It is also used for preventing/treating damage to the stomach and upper part of the intestine caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
It may be used to decrease the risk of stomach bleeding in severely ill patients. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
