Atopex (generic name: Ciclosporin; brand names include: Atopica) is used for the treatment of skin allergies, namely atopic dermatitis in dogs.
Atopex acts as an immunomodulator, targeting the immune cells involved in the allergic reaction. Atopex can be used in the treatment of atopic dermatitis in dogs at least 6 months of age and at least 4 pounds.
Atopex is proven to reduce itching and skin lesions in the majority of dogs.
Atopex is safe even when used over long periods and normally doesn't cause any serious side effects.
Atopex is available as packs of 10 capsules each:
two packs = 20 caps
four packs = 40 caps
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your veterinarian. Give Atopex to your dog exactly as directed by your veterinarian.
Atopex should always be given 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Allow plenty of water for your pet to drink.
The usual Atopex dosage is one pill given once daily. The strength of the pills given depends on the dog's weight and is normally 10 mg for dogs 4 to 9 pounds, 25 mg for dogs 9.1 to 16 pounds, 50 mg for dogs 16.1 to 33 pounds and 100 mg for dogs 33.1 to 64 lbs.
Do not use Atopex in dogs with kidney disease, stomach ulcers, and certain blood disorders.
Active ingredient: cyclosporine.
